Evergreen woodfern (Dryopteris intermedia)

Medium sized (2-3′ height) evergreen fern with fragile upright fronds growing in a cluster off the rhizome. Thrice divided fern, with numerous sori on the underside of the pinnae. Rhizome is compact and upright. Common to moist and dry woods, frequently associated with hemlock trees.
