Coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum)
A sub-aquatic plant of shallow, soft bottomed lakes, ponds, and slow moving streams. The plant contains multiple branches, with whorled leaves and very bushy tips that can give the appearance of a racoon tail. Flowers are infrequently produced.
*Coontail does not have roots. Nutrients are absorbed directly through the water.
