Fox sedge (Carex vulpinoidea)
A perennial sedge common to meadows, marshes, and the margins of streams and ponds. Multiple inflorescence emerge from a tuft of green leaves. The inflorescence contains inconspicuous flowers that form a single spur with multiple seeds. The spur turns golden brown in the late summer that readily shatters. Seeds are consumed by woodcocks, songbirds, waterfowl, and small mammals. An attractive addition to the native plant garden
