Rice cutgrass (Leersia oryzoides)
A grass common to marshes and the shorelines of streams and rivers. A nasty piece of work, its leaf blades are lined with sharp teeth that WILL leave your bare arms and legs lined with cuts should one be so foolish as to harvest seeds in shorts and t-shirts. Seeds have an annoying ability to wind their way into socks and lodge into the insides of shoes. Like I said, a nasty piece of work. But GREAT for habitat restoration projects, as the seed is eaten by songbirds and small mammals.
