Softstem bulrush (Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani)

Perennial bulrush of marshes and the margins of ponds, lakes, and streams. Stems are easily compressed and are eaten by muskrats and other small mammals. Seed heads host numerous small spiders and insects. Seeds are eaten by waterfowl and wetland birds.
