Tussock sedge (Carex stricta)
An attractive clumping sedge common to marshes and swamps. As the clumps increase in size, they form ‘tussocks’ that serve as islands in inundated environments. These tussocks collect sediment, trap water (during drier periods) and p;rovide habitat for birds and amphibians. Seed heads form in late June and shatter by mid-July.
