Swamp loosestrife (Decodon verticillatus)
A unique shrub/herbaceous plant found along the shoreline of ponds and lakes, mostly commonly with acidic, boggy soils. The plant grows in 1-3 feet of water, forming clumps of spongy woody stems at the base of the plant, while the upper stems are herbaceous-like with simple opposite green leaves. Showy pink flowers form in clusters along the stem, making this an attractive pond edge or water garden plant. The upper stems bend gracefully into the water, where new roots form along the stem. Excellent plant for shoreline erosion control.
